About Jarrahdale State Forest

Jarrahdale State Forest, located approximately 45 kilometers southeast of Perth, Western Australia, covers a vast area of native hardwood forests primarily composed of Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata) and Karri (Eucalyptus diversicolor) species. The forest terrain features gently undulating hills, diverse understorey shrub species, and rich biodiversity, including many native bird species, mammals, and reptiles. Historically, Jarrahdale was an important site for timber logging, with extensive sawmills operating in the early 20th century. Today, the forest is managed for sustainable timber harvesting, recreation, and conservation. Outdoor enthusiasts frequent the area for its network of well-maintained trails suitable for hiking and mountain biking, including trails that traverse scenic forest roads and creek lines. Visitors can explore remnants of historic timber town structures and machinery scattered through the forest, providing a glimpse into industrial heritage. Several picnic areas and designated camping spots encourage longer stays. Wildlife viewing is rewarding here, with opportunities to spot kangaroos, echidnas, and various bird species such as the Carnaby's Black Cockatoo. The forest also plays a key role in protecting local water catchments and supporting native flora. Jarrahdale State Forest’s proximity to Perth makes it a popular escape for day trips and weekend outings, offering a peaceful forest setting with varied recreation options for all ages.
